Add Speech Capabilities to your copy of World Book for Mac OS X!

We're pleased to announce that we've completed an updater that will allow the copy of World Book that came with your computer to take advantage of the speech technologies built into Mac OS X. After you've run the World Book 6.0.3 updater, which contains the Speech Enabler, you will be able to navigate World Book using voice commands and have any one of World Book's 18,000 articles read out loud to you!

Just download the World Book 6.0.3 update installer below and follow the onscreen instructions. The upgrade contains the Speech Enabler along with a number of other enhancements. You can also download the Getting Started guide to get familiar with the new speech features of World Book 6.0.3. This updater will upgrade World Book version 6.0.2 which comes bundled with most consumer Macintosh computers sold since January 2002, including iMacs, iBooks and the new Emac. Enjoy!

A Note on Microphones

The microphones built into the Macintosh computers that come with World Book pre-installed are perfect for use with Apple's voice recognition systems. This includes all iMacs, eMacs, and the new white iBooks so you will not need to buy a microphone!

Watch this space as we'll be posting additional information as we implement more speech functionality for the upcoming Jaguar release of Mac OS X. Please send us your feedback to worldbook@mackiev.com. Thanks!
